I do love the deserts, but I never made it to Joshua Tree during the 5 years I lived in Sacramento. I did spend lots of time near (but not in) Anza Borrego and in the deserts around and mountains above Palm Desert and Palm Springs looking for Buprestidae - fascinating, fascinating place. I fondly recall listening to the winds howling through the valley below while camped at Pinyon Flats. Good times.
